Good Morning Britain fans were quick to share their views as Richard Madeley made a much-anticipated return to the programme after an extended break. On Monday’s episode of the popular ITV morning show, regular anchor Susanna Reid was joined by co-host Richard.

The seasoned 68-year-old broadcaster had been away from GMB for a number of weeks, during which the show saw a few alterations with different regulars stepping in to cover for him. In Richard’s absence, ITV audiences were treated to a variety of hosts including Ed Balls and Martin Lewis, while Kate Garraway took on presenting responsibilities alongside TV judge Rob Rinder.

Upon his comeback, Richard bypassed any talk of his break and dived straight into the day’s schedule, teasing upcoming segments on the show, according to the Mirror. While some viewers were delighted to see Richard back, others were less enthusiastic.

Social media was abuzz with comments from viewers eager to voice their opinions on his return. One displeased viewer exclaimed: “Not watching.”

Another remarked: “Sorry I can’t watch Madeley. I’m opting to go out and run in the dark/rain as the better option. Disappointed.”, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Yet another added: “Richard Madeley co-presenting? No thanks @GMB.”

Conversely, some fans were overjoyed at the ‘dream team’ being back together, with one fan posting: “I So lovely to see Richard back this week with Susanna first time in weeks. @richardm56 and @susannareid100 welcome back Richard.”

One fan couldn’t contain their excitement, exclaiming: “So happy to see the best dream team back Richard and Susanna @susannareid100 and.@richardm56.”

This follows recent comments from Richard about his future on GMB, where he made it clear that he has no plans to leave his current role. “I am very happy to stay on GMB as long as they want me,” he stated.

“At some point I’m going to be too bloody old – I’m 68! “At some stage either I will think or ITV will think maybe the time’s come. But hopefully that will be for a few years yet, because I don’t feel 68.

Richard also spoke about his time on the show, strongly refuting any rumours of a disagreement with co-host Susanna Reid. In an interview with The Sun, he said: “I wouldn’t get up at four in the f****** morning two weeks out of four, Monday to Thursday, if I didn’t enjoy it. I don’t need to do it. My career arch as it were, is behind me.”
