Reddit users across the UK and US are experiencing frustration this morning, October 14, as the popular social media site is down. Thousands of users have reported issues with Reddit, including displaying an error message on its website reading “no healthy upstream”.

According to disruption tracker Down Detector, the problems began around 5am. It appears that both the site and its app are having difficulties connecting to backend servers.

Despite the widespread issues, the official Reddit status page claims the site is operating normally. Reddit has not so far acknowledged the issue on its official account on X, but social media users have used it to share their annoyance, reports the Mirror.

One user asked: “What happened to Reddit? It’s been down for hours.” Another shared: “Reddit is down. Shows you the extent of my life if I notice it’s down at 4am.”

A third regular user claimed: “Reddit is down. How am I supposed to waste time at the office?”

However, some savvy users have discovered a workaround by visiting “old Reddit,” the original, no-frills version of the site. To access it, type old. reddit.com into the URL bar on a browser.

Users can set their Reddit preferences to revert to the original design if they prefer. The Mirror has contacted Reddit for comment.

Reddit is a social media platform where users can share content, ask questions, and discuss topics in niche communities called subreddits. The site experienced a significant outage in August, leaving over 150,000 US users struggling with the platform. The app was mainly unresponsive, and the website also faced downtime.

In the UK, peak disruption saw around 30,000 reported issues. Users took to other social media platforms to voice their frustrations, with one user on X stating: “I’m running to Twitter to see if Reddit is down for everyone else.”

Reddit acknowledged the problem on its official Twitter account. A spokesperson said: “The issue has been identified and a fix is being implemented.”

This response followed an earlier admission of “degraded performance,” which prompted angry replies from X users. One posted: “How come you can say ‘degraded performance’ while it’s literally been dead for over 20 minutes?”
