A Chinese restaurant on Broad Quay that served bottomless brunches looks to have closed its doors for good, after just months of being open. Dao Chao, which opened in January of this year, after the closure of the popular Aluna bar on New Year’s Eve, looks to be completely empty at time of writing.
According to Google, Dao Chao is listed as being ‘temporarily closed’ and a photo taken by BristolLive shows the restaurant empty, with furniture, bar and fittings ‘stripped out’. The team at Dao Chao have not posted anything about the closure on their social media pages, BristolLive understands, and the website seems to be ‘under maintenance’ according to the link.
It seems like the restaurant has been closed for some time, too. One Reddit user posting some three months ago asked if Dao Chao was ‘closed permanently now’, with others commenting that the restaurant had “been shut for at least a few weeks now” and wondering if the team were in the midst of a “revamp to try to bring in more business”.
BristolLive has approached the Dao Chao team for comment.
Aluna closed its doors on New Year’s Eve, much to the disappointment of fans of its cocktails, bottomless brunch menu and ‘selfie-worthy’ decor. And Dao Chao came to the rescue, also offering a bottomless brunch – this one every Saturday and Sunday, priced at £25.95 per person.
The brunch included a main and dessert, and a bottomless beverage. Diners could choose from cocktails, prosecco, lager, cider or mocktails.
At the time, the Dao Chao team described the new restaurant’s look as being ‘reflective of modern Chinese culture, with blossom feature walls seamlessly blended with a minimalist aesthetic, creating a peaceful, relaxed ambiance’. The menu included dishes such as bao bun burgers, mussel stir fry and crispy lotus root.
There were also a number of original cocktail creations, such as the Mother of Dragons – a golden rum cocktail with apricot, almond and dragon fruit. Prices started from £12.50 for a main dish. In May, Dao Chao posted to say it was introducing a brand new food menu, following feedback from customers.
According to Dao Chao’s Instagram and Facebook pages, the team last posted content in July.
