Cristiano Ronaldo sent a furious text message to a former footballer after the Al-Nassr star was criticised, it has been claimed.

The 39-year-old is still going strong in Saudi Arabia for his club and will be hoping to start for Portugal when they lock horns with Poland tonight.

Former football star Antonio Cassano recently appeared on a podcast where he said he wouldn’t put Ronaldo in his list of the 10 greatest footballers of all time.

And the Italian has now revealed the veteran sent a furious text message after learning of Cassano’s stance.

“I said Ronaldo is No 1, the Brazilian,” he told Passa Dal BSMT.

“Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t make my top five, or even top ten, because for me the quality of a player is another thing.

“Next thing, I finish the work I was doing and I get a text message from a +34 number, that’s Spain. It’s a list of all the trophies, goals and statistics.

“Then he sends me a voice note, telling me, ‘You disrespected me, don’t do anything like that again. You only scored 150 goals, you only won four trophies.’ Perfect.”

Cassano then explained his stance and how he reacted.

The former AC Milan and Real Madrid star insisted he didn’t mean to ‘disrespect’ Ronaldo.

And he was shocked by how sensitive the former Manchester United winger is, too.

“So I answer him. I say, ‘Dear Cristiano, listen to me. You think I disrespected you, I just don’t like you as a player. What’s the problem?’

“He went to the trouble of messaging me, imagine.”

Ronaldo has scaled the dizzyiest of heights throughout his career, establishing himself as one of the best players of all time.

His career started at Sporting Lisbon, with the forward then earning a move to Manchester United in 2003.

He initially experienced some teething problems at Old Trafford, having arrived as a replacement for David Beckham.

But Ronaldo became a legend at United, firing the club to three Premier League titles, as well as the Champions League, during his six years in Manchester.

He cemented himself as a Real Madrid icon, too.

Ronaldo scored over 400 goals during his time at the Bernabeu, with Los Blancos winning four Champions League titles during that spell.

In 2018, he moved to Juventus.
