The makeup artist behind some iconic looks for beauty moguls Gemma Collins, GK Barry, Sophie Piper, Vicky Pattison and many more is shedding light on the little-known technique that can give off the effect of botox around your eyes – without the procedure. Lielle Neury explained that it all starts with finding the perfect lash to suite the shape of your eye.
The celebrity artist broke it down: “If you have hooded eyes you want to emphasise the middle of the eye, I would use a natural or wispy lash, like the Eyelash Emporium Natural 01, as they won’t drag your eye down and they are full and fluffy whilst being subtle.” Hooded eyes are generally character by your upper eyelid being entirely covered by the skin under your brow bone when you open your eyes.
Lielle continued: “If you have downturned eyes you want to elevate your lashes and create a ‘lifted’ look. I like to phrase this as ‘Botox for the eyes using lashes’. Use soft and wispy doll styled lashes that are evenly curled throughout. For almond eyes I would recommend a half lash to create a ‘feline’ effect. This will elongate the eye.”
Almond eyes, on the other hand, are shaped like the nut with fine points on one or both sides of the eye. Charlotte Tilbury notes the quintessential difference between almond and downturned is the outer corners with the upper lash line of almond eyes lifting up and out while the latter will point downwards.
Ultimately, Lielle noted that age can also play a part in how you can style your lashes: “f you are slightly older and still want that ‘full lash’ effect but are too worried to overdo it, I would opt for a wispy lash as they look super-natural whilst giving your lash dimension and depth.”
When it comes to her celebrity clientele, the makeup artist revealed most opt for the half lash which “can really transform your eye shape” without dragging down the eye or being too harsh for a soft glam look. She gushed: “I converted my client GK Barry from a full lash to a half lash and ever since I showed her how it transformed her eye shape, we have only used half lashes – whether we are doing a full glam for a red carpet or a softer glam for a shoot its always our go to.”
