A mermaid from Bristol is one of the stars of a new TV series now streaming on ITVX. Hannah Pearl who has gained a name locally for her conservation work stars in the second episode of Alter Egos.
Directed by rising star Moses Ssebandeke, the show looks at people with extraordinary passions who live ‘double lives’. Hannah, who works as a marketing manager, has lived her mermaid dream for seven years after training at the International Mermaid Swimming School in the Philippines
Hannah is also a skilled freediver, exploring UK waters and most recently diving with wild dolphins in Zanzibar. Hannah often visits community events and libraries teaching kids the secrets of the sea, encouraging eco-friendly habits, and making waves of change.
Her self-published children’s book series, Ruby Rockpool, follows a marine warrior mermaid’s journey to save the oceans. Hannah brings the underwater world to life for children through her books and sparks conversations about marine conservation.
All book sales support ocean-saving charities, adding depth to her cause and making her an inspirational figure for young readers. She has also led beach clean-ups.
Speaking about the series and her journey as a mermaid, Hannah said: “I’m thrilled to be part of this fincredible project filmed in Bristol and Portishead Lido. My journey as a mermaid is about more than just swimming with a tail; it’s about inspiring people to protect our oceans and ensuring future generations care for our beautiful marine world.”
The children’s author and professional mermaid has previously performed at Bristol Harbour Festival and works as a children’s entertainer at kids parties. In 2020 Hannah was one of at least four professional mermaids living in Bristol.
