The creation of Bristol Airport’s new public transport interchange is to take a step forward in the coming months, as airport bosses have revealed it will include a convenience store.
The airport has invited supermarket chains and other businesses to put forward bids to be the ones chosen to create the convenience store, which will be at the heart of the £60 million interchange, across the road from the airport terminal.
The interchange will feature a multi-storey car park, an interchange for coaches, buses and ‘other forms of transport’, a glazed bridge link between the car parks and the terminal, new waiting and rest facilities and an enlarged drop off and pick up area – and the convenience store.
The airport is now at the second stage of choosing which chain it will be – there’s already several convenience stores inside the terminal building itself, including WHSmiths and Boots – and the selection will be made towards the end of November.
From then, it is expected that the transport interchange building, which is currently part of the swathe of building works currently going on at the airport, will be completed by August 2025.
“We are looking forward to hearing from businesses who would like to tender for our exciting new provision of a convenience store in our new Public Transport Interchange,” explained Rupert Lawrie, the airport’s commercial director. “We welcome applications from everyone, whether they are an independent regional company or a national or international group.
“A great customer experience is important, so the potential partner would need to demonstrate exceptional food and drink provision, first class customer service and great value for money. The airport is a fast paced and dynamic environment with innovation and new ways of working central to our business,” he added.
