One person has been taken to hospital following an incident in east Belfast.

Emergency services including the Air Ambulance attended the scene in the Montgomery Road area of the city on Friday morning.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) said it received a 999 call at 11:44am “following reports of an incident”.

“NIAS despatched two Emergency Ambulances, a Hazardous Area Response Team and the Chairy Air Ambulance with HEMS on board were also tasked to the incident,” a spokesperson said.

“Following initial assessment and treatment at scene, one patient was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital by ambulance.”

SDLP councillor Gary McKeown had earlier asked motorists to avoid the area.

In a post on social media, he wrote: “The air ambulance has landed behind Belfast Met on Montgomery Road. Police have closed the road so please avoid the area.”
