One of Northern Ireland’s oldest women has passed away just days before her 107th birthday.

Margaret Ann Ferguson, from Portadown, died peacefully on Sunday in the care of Rosemount Care Home.

Previously of The Avenue, Portadown, she would have been 107 today.

Margaret (known as Nan) was the wife of the late Crozier; mother of the late Paul; mother-in-law of Jackie; grandmother of Sam and Katy; and aunt of Ian and Valerie Milne.

She was also a great-aunt of Stuart (Natasha), Rebecca (Connor) and Andrew (Sarah), and a great-great-aunt of Sophia.

Seagoe Parish Church, where she was the eldest parishioner, paid tribute to her.

It said: “Nan was the most remarkable, gracious lady who was so involved in the life of the church until advancing years prevented her from attending worship.

“Nan never lost her concern for the welfare of the people of the parish and in particular, her much-loved St. Patrick’s Killicomaine.

“The estate was built upon her family’s land and her parents generously donated the land upon which the church there stands.

“Every time I visited Nan, I came away with a smile on my face and feeling blessed by spending time with her.

“On Saturday evening, I was privileged to have been able to pay my final visit to Nan and to pray, commending her into her Lord’s eternal care. Nan peacefully slept away a few hours later.”

Another post said she was a faithful member of the Seagoe Mothers Union, attending meetings until her later years.

Nan’s funeral service will be held today at noon in Seagoe Parish Church, with committal afterwards in Knocknamuckley Parish Church Graveyard.

The family has requested no flowers, with donations for the benefit of Seagoe Parish Church.
