By failing to learn the lessons of history — that hatred against Jews never stops with the Jews — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Liberals have destroyed the credibility of their claim that diversity is Canada’s strength.

Jews have already endured 12 months of the worst outbreak of anti-Semitism, hatred and violence in modern memory, aimed at their tiny numbers of about 335,000 people, or less than 1% of Canada’s population, as of the 2021 Census.

It shows no signs of letting up.

To the contrary, anti-Jewish demonstrations continue to grow in the wake of Hamas terrorists massacring 1,200 people last Oct. 7 in Israel and kidnapping 250 more — some freed through a hostage deal, some murdered in captivity, the fate of about 100 unknown.

But the impact on Canadian society goes far beyond the fact that the vast majority of Jews living in Canada will never again feel safe or secure in a country they once saw as a bastion of decency and tolerance.

Because something else was happening during those many months of anti-Jewish protests by Jew-haters who were holding Jews in Canada personally responsible for the military actions of Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu government in Gaza.

It soon became apparent that these demonstrations — though some within them were motivated by genuine concern for Palestinian suffering at least at the beginning— were in fact being driven by organizers who consider the terrorists of Hamas to be heroes.

Who hate Canada, hate our flag, and hate our way of life even though they were born here or chose to live here.

Who hate Canadians of any religion, or no religion, except for those who share the medieval religious concepts of Hamas terrorists.

Now after a year of allowing this infection to spread by initially downplaying it — maybe they thought there would be more votes in it for them because of Canada’s small Jewish population compared to other religious demographics — the Trudeau Liberals have suddenly discovered they have a security crisis on their hands with no way to control it.

They forget, or never learned, the lesson of history that hatred that starts by attacking Jews — see the Holocaust — never ends with the Jews, and that it transforms any society that fails to address it, for the worse, forever.
