A popular Christmas float that travels through streets in Bath, South Gloucestershire and the surrounding areas each festive season, and has been known to see appearances from The Grinch, will not be going ahead this year. In a post to Facebook on October 5, the team behind the float said: “Update on this year’s Christmas float – unfortunately there will be no Santa float this year.

“There’s just too much red tape to carry on. But the good news is that we are still doing something for the children and to raise a few pounds for a local charity. Please follow us at the Bath hot air balloon club for more information.”

Instead, the Bath Hot Air Balloon Club, who are behind the event, will be hosting an event at Snake Meadows in Saltford, where families can watch Santa flying over in his sleigh, can meet him in his Grotto, and can even meet The Grinch. Tickets cost £5.

If you’re looking forward to a Santa Float making an appearance in a street near you this winter, then fear not, as the ‘original’ Santa Float will still be going ahead this year. In a post to their Facebook page on Sunday, the Original Santa Float wrote: “Ho-ho-ho the original Santa build is a GO.

“We will be posting in due course our chosen charities, routes and dates, for now we are under the watchful eyes of the Grinch, elf and stitch whilst we are under construction and planning. Make sure to follow us to keep updated, who’s excited?”
