Lidl’s latest beauty range has been lauded by shoppers, who claim it rivals high-end brands such as L’Occitane, Aesop and Sol de Janeiro. The budget supermarket has unveiled a variety of beauty and skincare products that could easily be mistaken for luxury brands based on packaging alone.
For just £3.99 each, fans of Sol de Janeiro can purchase 250ml exotic hair and body perfume mists in two different scents. Shoppers can choose from 78 Crush, which is jasmine and dragon fruit or 72 Infusion, which is pistachio and salted caramel.
If you buy both bottles, you get 500ml worth of perfume spray for the price of £7.98. Buying the real Sol de Janeiro sprays from retailers like Boots would cost you £24 for 90ml.
Lidl is also taking cues from L’Occitane with its new hand cream and liquid soaps. For £2.49, shoppers can get a 100ml tube of D’avignon Shea Hand Cream, which is made with 20% shea butter.
The hand cream may remind beauty enthusiasts of L’Occitane’s Shea Butter Intense Hand Balm, which costs £28 for 150ml on LookFantastic. Lidl customers also have the choice of three different scented D’avignon hand and body liquid soaps, reports the Mirror.
For £2.99 each, there is a rose option, as well as lavender and verbena – which is a type of plant. The 500ml liquid soaps are arguably reminiscent of L’Occitane’s Luxury Size Shea Butter Lavender, Verbena and Rose soaps – priced at £28 each on the official website.
Lidl has released a range of 500ml shower gels that shoppers say ‘smell just like’ the luxury versions sold by high street brand Lush. There are 500ml bottles from Lidl’s ‘By Deluxe’ range, each priced at a bargain £1.99.
Fans of Aesop may be interested in trying Lidl’s Adoration Aromatic Body Cleanser and Hand Wash. The body cleanser, described as ‘gentle’ and packed with ‘skin-loving nutrients’, comes in a 500ml bottle and is priced at £3.99.
It is available in two versions: one with the scent of geranium, verbena and ylang, and the other infused with sweet orange, petti-grain and jasmine. The hand wash, also priced at £3.99 for a 500ml bottle, features the aroma of grapefruit and guaiac wood.
On John Lewis’ website, a 500ml bottle of Aesop’s Resurrection Aromatique Hand Wash costs £33. By choosing Lidl’s own brand alternatives, customers could save a significant amount of money while still enjoying a touch of luxury.
Many savvy shoppers have already discovered these bargain products and shared their finds online. In the popular Facebook group, Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, a Lidl customer named Karen posted a picture of her Aesop-inspired items.
“Lidl doing Aesop dupes for £3.49. They smell lovely. If you look at Aesop website their body cleanser and hand-wash is over £30,” she said. Another shopper, Kinga, shared a photo of her newly purchased jasmine and dragon fruit body spray, adding: “Found this in Lidl today for £3,99. Smells like Sol de Janeiro which is £20+ in shops.”
Melanie posted a picture of various products on the shelves at her local Lidl, saying: “All the Lidl designer [alternatives] are in one place in my store. Sol de Janeiro dupes just out of shot. Rituals, Jo Malone, Lush, L’Occitane, Molton Brown etc”.
Michelle took to social media to rave about her Lidl shopping spree, sharing: “Just been to Lidl an got the Sol, the lush shower gel, the Jo Malone hand wash and the white company Seychelles candle [alternatives], every single one smells exactly like the real ones.”
