If Manchester United decide to part ways with Erik ten Hag, then Cristiano Ronaldo’s verdict will be fascinating to see.

Ten Hag is currently the subject of speculation following a dreadful start to the season, with the Red Devils picking up just eight points from their seven Premier League matches so far.

It is now what United chiefs were expecting when they decided to keep the 54-year-old, and give him a one-year contract extension, back in the summer.

Ten Hag was meant to kick on this term. With the fallen giants making big changes behind the scenes, including the appointments of Dan Ashworth and Omar Berrada, the glory days were meant to be coming back.

Instead, United find themselves as far away from the top as at any point in the years since Sir Alex Ferguson’s emotional retirement.

As things stand, Red Devils chiefs are at a meeting in London. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, as well as Ashworth, Berrada, Jason Wilcox and Sir Dave Brailsford, are all in attendance.

Ten Hag could lose his job, with Thomas Tuchel reportedly waiting in the wings to take over.

Though his spell at Bayern Munich didn’t really work out, many United fans are eager to see the German come in. As a serial winner, he’s certainly got the credentials for the job.

Should Ten Hag go, United legends will speak out. Many of them, including Gary Neville and Roy Keane, are household names in media these days.

But one person who will also likely open up will be Ronaldo.

The veteran recently launched his YouTube channel and has already stuck the knife into Ten Hag once on there.

The pair never got on at Old Trafford, with Ten Hag inheriting Ronaldo after being named as the club’s permanent replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back in the summer of 2022.

The Dutchman never really thought the 39-year-old had the required qualities to lead his attack.

It was clear their relationship was strained when Ronaldo flatly refused to come off the bench during a 2-0 United win over Tottenham.

And he was gone mere months after that, with the Al-Nassr star sent off to Saudi Arabia following his decision to criticise Ten Hag in a public interview in November 2022.

Ronaldo recently criticised Ten Hag for saying that United can’t compete for the biggest and best titles on offer.

Given their past issues, the 39-year-old would likely be even more critical of Ten Hag goes.

The 54-year-old does deserve some credit for his time at United.

He has, after all, guided the Red Devils to two trophies during his stint in the dugout.

Yet Ten Hag, simply put, has never looked remotely like being the man who could win United their first trophy since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2013.

Ronaldo would likely be delighted to see Ten Hag relieved of his duties. He feels the Dutchman is holding his old side back.

Whether Ratcliffe and the rest of the hierarchy think the same, however, remains to be seen.
