Bristol Olympian Izzy Thorpe will share her inspirational story of silver medal success with a city MP. Darren Jones MP, who represents Bristol North West, will be in conversation with the Team GB star at a special event this weekend.

Artistic swimmer Izzy, from Westbury-on Trym, and partner Kate Shortman, wowed the judges in Paris this summer. Mr Jones will find out what it was like for Izzy to make it onto the podium – and what’s next for the athlete as she navigates what it means to be a role model for the next generation.

And Izzy isn’t Bristol North West’s only connection to the Paris Olympics. Photographs of the artistic swimming group Almost Synchro, who train at Henleaze Lake, featured on Paris Metro billboards in the build-up to the competition.

The MP said: “It’s an incredible accomplishment to win a medal at the Olympics, and I know that many people in Bristol North West were cheering for Izzy this summer. The ability to inspire others is something that politicians and athletes have in common.

“I’m pleased that we can hold an event to celebrate her success and to discuss the importance of inspiring others.”
