The Met Office has warned Arctic Weather will bring below-average temperatures and possibly snow for some this week. Snow is being forecast for the mountains of Scotland while much of the UK will get a sudden cold blast.

A Met Office spokesman said: “The rest of the week continues to look unsettled, with rain and showers affecting most areas at times, but probably less heavy and less widespread overall. Things also look to turn colder, with temperatures dipping from Wednesday in the north and all areas experiencing below average temperatures from Thursday.

“Night frosts are expected for some regions, and snow is possible for the higher mountains of Scotland.”

Weather maps show the remains of Hurricane Kirk passing across the UK this week, dragging colder air behind it. As Kirk moves from the UK into France cold weather from the north will be pulled over the country.

The forecast from Friday reads: “A colder interlude across all areas of the UK as northerly winds push south bringing showers, these wintry across hills in the North. Perhaps a more organised spell of rain and stronger winds across Scotland especially as we head into the weekend, meanwhile southern areas are likely to see much drier conditions than of late with some sunshine by day.

“Temperatures below average, especially in the north with some overnight frost possible along with some patchy mist and fog. Later in the weekend likely to turn more unsettled once more with outbreaks of rain and some stronger winds expected to return to the northwest of the UK especially, although the southeast may well hang on to drier conditions throughout.”
