Drivers are being urged to take note of diversions as emergency services deal with an accident on the northbound stretch of the M32 in Bristol. Earlier this morning traffic sites alerted the public to the incident, highlighting at 10.40am that the northbound exit slip road was closed due to an accident at Junction 1 with the A4174.

While the initial report suggested traffic was coping well, this was soon followed up by alerts which stated that all traffic was being “temporarily held” due to the accident, with jams running from J2 B4058 (Eastville) to J1 A4174 (Hambrook) and congestion to J3..

National Highways explained in it’s report that “all emergency services are currently on scene. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene assisting with traffic management. The closure is expected to be in place for several hours for police investigation.”

Avon and Somerset Police have also posted a Twitter message stating that the road was closed “from Junction 2 (Fishponds) to Junction 1 (Ring Road) following a collision on the Junction 1 slip road this morning (Sunday 6 October). Emergency services are on the scene but motorists are advised to seek an alternative route.”

To assist motorists the following diversion route has been issued:

* Northbound traffic should follow the solid triangle diversion symbol

* Exit the M32 at J2 and at the roundabout, take the third exit on to the B4469

* At the traffic lights, take the A432 and continue for approx. 4 miles to Wick Wick roundabout

* At the roundabout, take the first exit on to the A4174 westbound

* Rejoin the M32 at J1
