A tanker overturned and crashed with several other vehicles on the M5 this afternoon (Friday, October 4). Avon and Somerset Police were called to the scene at about 3pm and the motorway was closed in both directions.
The tanker was travelling southbound between junction 14 for Falfield and junction 15 for Almondsbury when the collision took place. It also crashed into the central barrier.
Avon and Somerset Police said: “At approximately 3pm we were informed that a tanker travelling southbound on the M5 had overturned and collided with several other vehicles between junctions 14 (Falfield) and 15 (Almondsbury). The tanker also collided with the central reservation and therefore the road was closed in both directions.
“Two lanes southbound have since reopened. Emergency services remain at the scene and recovery work is ongoing.”
Elsewhere this afternoon, a stretch of the M4 was shut following a police incident. It has since reopened but lengthy delays remain around the Almondsbury Interchange.
