The mother of a 13-year-old girl who was killed in the IRA Shankill Bombing has passed away.
Gina Murray campaigned for many years for victims of the atrocity after she lost her only daughter, Leanne.
The last time Gina saw her daughter alive was when she was going into Frizzell’s fish shop in Belfast moments before the 1993 explosion.
Leanne was one of nine innocent people killed on the day of the attack.
Bomber Thomas Begley was also killed in the blast while his accomplice Sean Kelly, whose name and face would become synonymous with the outrage, was pulled from the rubble, with rescuers oblivious to who he really was.
Others involved have never faced justice.
Last year, Gina said publicly how she believed she would be dead “before the truth is finally revealed” over the bombing.
A post on the Kilcooley and Ards North Down Women’s Centre Facebook page announced that Gina Murray had passed away on Thursday.
“All of us at KWC are beyond devastated at the loss of Gina Murray who passed away yesterday,” it said.
“Gina was a force of nature, who dedicated over 15 years to the work of KWC.
“She was instrumental in the programmes to support older women and was a tireless campaigner for victims of violence and for women in the area.
“She will be most remembered for her unending campaign for justice for her beloved daughter Leanne who was murdered in the Shankill bombing at the age of 13.
“Gina never got over this terrible loss, and the comfort is that she is now at peace, with Leanne. Our thoughts are with Gary and the family for their loss.”
