• A 2008 Hyundai Elantra with 1,000,000 km on its odo has been fully restored and given to a Quebec teenager
  • The restoration was made possible by a collaborative effort between Hyundai Canada and Quebec TV show Roulez au Suivant
  • Speaking of milestones, Hyundai Motor just built its 100 millionth vehicle, after 57 years in operation

A remarkable 2008 Hyundai Elantra that’s covered an astounding one million kilometres has been given a new lease on life. Restored in a joint venture between Hyundai Canada and popular Quebec TV show Roulez au Suivant, the car was presented to a young Quebec resident. It continues its extraordinary journey with a fresh new look inspired by Hyundai’s N performance division.

Originally purchased as a pre-owned vehicle from Hyundai Granby in 2011, this 2008 Elantra holds the record for the highest mileage of any Hyundai vehicle in Canada. The former owner averaged an impressive 107,000 km annually, eventually pushing the Elantra past the one-million-kilometre milestone in 2020. After achieving this incredible feat, the Elantra was traded in for a newer Hyundai Kona.

Comprehensive restoration on Roulez au Suivant

The complete restoration of this Elantra was featured on Roulez au Suivant, a Quebec TV show hosted by automotive journalist Antoine Joubert. The popular show buys, revives, and donates used cars to people or organizations in need or to lend a helping hand.

This time, Hyundai Canada donated the car to the show, and a deserving recipient was selected from numerous applications submitted by the public. The lucky new owner, Éloïc Lachance, a teenager from Rougemont, Quebec, was chosen to receive the fully restored vehicle.

The restoration process was extensive, involving work on the car’s mechanical, body, and interior components. Although the original engine was still in good condition, Hyundai Canada replaced it with a new short block to ensure a fresh start for Lachance. Over 100 parts were supplied by Hyundai Canada to extend the car’s lifespan further, and the odometer, which had stopped at 999,999 km, was reset to zero—with an additional “1” added at the front to commemorate the car’s exceptional journey.

The restored Elantra’s new design pays homage to Hyundai’s modern N Performance division. The car now sports the brand’s iconic “Performance Blue” paint, with red-edged skirts reminiscent of a 2024 Elantra N model. The ‘N’ logo – above the word “INSPIRED” – were added to the vehicle to emphasize its transformation further.

Hyundai celebrates 100 million vehicles produced globally

In addition to this remarkable restoration, Hyundai Motor Company recently celebrated an even more significant milestone: producing its 100-millionth vehicle. Achieved in just 57 years, Hyundai’s success highlights the brand’s rapid growth and its commitment to innovation. The 100-millionth vehicle, an Ioniq 5, rolled off the line at Hyundai’s Ulsan Plant in Korea, where the company marked the event with a special ceremony. As a symbol of appreciation, the company delivered the 100-millionth-and-first vehicle directly to a customer.
