Bruce Springsteen is throwing his support behind Kamala Harris’ bid to become America’s next president.
In an impassioned message shared to his official Instagram page, the Born to Run rocker praised Harris and her running mate Tim Walz for promoting a “vision of America I’ve been consistently writing about for 55 years.”
“Perhaps not since the Civil War has this great country felt as politically, spiritually and emotionally divided as it does than at this moment,” Springsteen said in his video, which was shot inside a diner. “It doesn’t have to be this way.”
Springsteen went on to slam Harris’ Republican rival, President Donald Trump, as the “the most dangerous candidate for president in my lifetime.”
“Donald Trump is the most dangerous candidate for president in my lifetime. His disdain for the sanctity of our Constitution, the sanctity of democracy, the sanctity of the rule of law and the sanctity of the peaceful transfer of power should disqualify him from the office of president ever again. He doesn’t understand the meaning of this country, its history, or what it means to be deeply American,” he added.
The Boss went on to praise the Harris and Walz campaign for their commitment to “a vision of this country that respects and includes everyone.”
“On the other hand, Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are committed to a vision of this country that respects and includes everyone, regardless of class, religion, race, your political point of view or sexual identity, and they want to grow our economy in a way that benefits all, not just a few like me, on top,” he said.
He concluded, “Now, everybody sees things different, and I respect your choice as a fellow citizen. But like you, I’ve only got one vote, and it’s one of the most precious possessions that I have. That’s why come Nov. 5 I’ll be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. Thanks for listening.”
Unsurprisingly, the Dancing in the Dark singer’s message received over 149,000 likes and more than 10,000 comments, many of them supporting his stance.
“As always a voice of reason. Brilliantly articulated Boss man. That’s why we love you,” one fan wrote, with Walz himself adding, “Bruce — as a lifelong fan, I couldn’t be more honored to have your support.”
But CNN contributor and Republican strategist Scott Jennings predicted Springsteen’s endorsement wouldn’t move the needle.
“I can’t think of anything I care about less than some moron celebrity … we’ve got Hulk Hogan and that’s all I need,” Jennings said. “I legitimately don‘t care because Joe Biden and Kamala Harris ran the country into the ground.”
Springsteen is the latest celebrity to voice his support for the Democrat, who recently secured the endorsement of Taylor Swift.
The 20-time Grammy winner has a long history of supporting Democrats, supporting Hillary Clinton in 2016 and President Joe Biden in 2020. He also backed President Barack Obama and actively campaigned for Senator John Kerry when he ran against President George W. Bush in 2004.
Springsteen has previously spoken out against Trump, calling his tenure a “f***ing nightmare” and telling The Atlantic in 2020 that the then-president was “a threat to our democracy.”
“He simply makes any kind of reform that much harder. I don’t know if our democracy could stand another four years of his custodianship. These are all existential threats to our democracy and our American way of life,” Springsteen said.
In a 2018 interview with Esquire, Springsteen said Trump was “deeply damaged at his core.”
“Anyone in that position who doesn’t deeply feel those ties that bind is a dangerous man, and it’s very pitiful,” he said.
And before Trump became president, Springsteen said he was “afraid of his lasting effect on the country” when he spoke with New Yorker editor David Remnick back in 2016.
“When he was just a big, sort of bloviating New York billionaire, he could be highly entertaining, and funny,” Springsteen admitted. “But he’s not funny as a presidential candidate.”
Trump has yet to address the Boss’ public support for his political rival, but after Swift endorsed Harris he predicted the singer’s popularity would take a hit.
During a call-in to Fox & Friends last month, Trump said he wasn’t surprised Swift is backing the Democrats calling her “a very liberal person.”
“It was just a question of time,” he said. “You couldn’t possibly endorse Biden. You look at Biden — you couldn’t endorse him …. She seems to always endorse a Democrat, and she’ll probably pay a price for it … in the marketplace.”
