Banbridge secured a 13th placed finish in the EuroHockey League, hockey’s version of the Champions League, with an impressive victory over Swiss side Grasshopper Club Zurich in Surbiton.

Banbridge began the placement game at a fierce pace, opening the scoring after just six minutes when Irish international Johnny McKee produced a sublime solo run and backhand finish to give his side a 1-0 lead.

McKee got his second of the game in the 15th minute, this time pouncing on a deflected side to double his goal tally. Philip Brown put the game to bed after just 22 minutes, grabbing a third unanswered goal before half-time.

Banbridge lost their last 16 game 4-2 against Belgian outfit Royal Leopold Club.
