In anticipation of widespread demand for five new stadium dates in North America and Mexico, Oasis has added four additional concerts to its itinerary, including an extra show at Toronto’s Rogers Stadium.
The band will play two nights at the new venue Aug. 24 and 25, with tickets going on sale at noon on Friday, Oct. 4.
“America. Oasis is coming. You have one last chance to prove that you loved us all along,” the Britpop band known for Beatles-esque hits like Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall and Don’t Look Back in Anger shared in a statement Monday morning.
After a feud that stretched back decades, brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher split in 2009 following a backstage fight in Paris with both artists pursuing individual careers.
“People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer,” Noel Gallagher, the band’s guitarist and songwriter, wrote in a statement at the time.
But after tensions thawed, the band announced their surprise comeback next summer with dates in Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland next July and August.
“This is it. This is happening,” the duo said.
They alluded to their past infighting in the tour announcement.
“The guns have fallen silent,” Oasis said. “The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised.”
In 2017, Noel told Postmedia he was “not a fan” of his brother’s solo work. “I’m not even remotely curious,” he said of Liam’s then-recently released As You Were LP.
But in 2022, Liam hinted that he was ready to reunite.
“Well, as long as we’re breathing and we’re still here, then there’s a chance we could get back together,” he said.
Liam also revealed he thought that the breakup made him a better musical artist in the ensuing years.
“It made me more determined. I’m here to make music, whether that’s with Noel or Dave Grohl or Andrew Wyatt or Kermit the Frog or Mickey the f***ing Mouse,” he said. “I don’t care who it is. I think it’s a shame we split up. The albums we could have made these last 10 years or however long it’s been could have been great. I didn’t spit on his kids or shoot his cat. I think it’s ridiculous. But it’s made me more determined to carry on the name of Oasis, singing those songs live, and throwing in some of my new ones.”
He also disputed the semantics behind their split, telling Postmedia that it was Noel who decided to “call it quits.”
“Noel Gallagher is the one who decided to call it quits because he couldn’t handle being told a couple of f***ing home truths and he knows he couldn’t sack his brother — and the main man — so he decided to go home. He was the one who called it quits,” Liam said.
Fans hoping to score tickets to one of the two Toronto shows will face steep odds when they go on sale Friday. A big chunk of seats are already spoken for thanks to an artist presale.
Oasis’ European shows sold out almost instantly as online ticket sites were inundated with requests in August.
But in a bid to avoid some of the backlash they received after fans complained about high ticket prices thanks to Ticketmaster’s dynamic pricing model, Oasis announced that they will be ditching the practice for their North American shows.
“It is widely accepted that dynamic pricing remains a useful tool to combat ticket touting and keep prices for a significant portion of fans lower than the market rate and thus more affordable,” the band said in a statement posted on X on Monday. “But when unprecedented ticket demand … is combined with technology that cannot cope with that demand, it becomes less effective and can lead to an unacceptable experience for fans.”
With tickets already popping up on reseller sites for the Toronto show, Oasis went a step further and promised that seats can only be resold at face value through authorized distributors.
“Please be aware. Thousands of fake Oasis tickets have already been discovered on Stubhub and Vivid Seats before the North America tour has even gone on sale!” the band warned on X on Thursday morning. “Twickets US and Ticketmaster Fan-to-Fan in the US and Canada are the only official resellers.”
