A bad day apparently became much worse for the family of an NFL star this past weekend.

After Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice suffered what appeared to be a severe knee injury during a game against the Los Angeles Chargers, his mother was then accused of stealing a neighbour’s package.

Just hours after Rice was carted off the field after taking an inadvertent hit to his knee from teammate Patrick Mahomes, the sophomore’s mother, Marsha Kearney, allegedly stole a neighbour’s package that contained Chappell Roan records.

In Ring cam footage obtained and released by TMZ, a woman wearing a Chiefs jersey with “Momma Rice” jersey on the back and the No. 4 on it walks by the camera and looks right into the lens as she passes by.

Moments later, the woman returns and uses her foot to slide the package down the hall. Unfortunately for her, while she might have thought she was out of the camera’s view, the woman is seen bending down to grab the package and it is clearly in her hand while she walks away.

The incident occurred on Sunday, just hours after the Chiefs scored a 17-10 victory over the host Chargers.

According to TMZ, the owner purchased two limited-edition vinyl records by budding music star Chappell Roan from Urban Outfitters.

The neighbour told the outlet that she attempted to resolve the issue with Kearney, Rice and the apartment leasing office to get the items back, but had no luck.

TMZ also reported that local law enforcement confirmed a report had been filed on Wednesday regarding the theft.

Rice himself has been in legal hot water since helping the Chiefs win the Super Bowl earlier this year.

In April, he surrendered to police on charges including aggravated assault after he and another driver of a speeding sports car allegedly caused a crash involving a half-dozen vehicles on a Dallas highway.

Rice said on Instagram that he was taking “full responsibility” for his part in the wreck and was released on bail with a trial pending.

He also was accused of assault earlier his year after an alleged incident at a Dallas nightclub.

In some good news, Rice’s injury doesn’t appear to be as severe as initially feared, although it was announced on Thursday that he has been placed on the injured reserve and will miss at least four games.

While team doctors are waiting for swelling to go down to render a final diagnosis, initial scans confirm Rice did not suffer a torn ACL.
