Katy Perry has revealed the secrets behind her remarkable ’20lbs’ weight loss journey in recent months, according to reports. The 39-year-old singer, who’s just released her latest album ‘143’, has given a nod to a traditional breakfast food – but it’s not porridge or pancakes.

Posting on Instagram, Perry shared that hard-boiled eggs are her choice, humorously demonstrating by tapping one on her forehead. “I eat a lot of hard-boiled eggs ’cause they’re a great source of protein,” she said. “But I don’t crack them on this [plate] ’cause it takes too much time.”

Yet, Perry’s approach to slimming down doesn’t end with eggs. Hello! claims that she follows in the footsteps of her fitness-conscious partner, Orlando Bloom, opting for ‘clean’ eating options such as chicken, fish, nuts, and seeds. In a January interview with Women’s Health, she also cited apple cider vinegar, ample hydration, and celery juice as key components of her wellness regimen.

“That is the best way to start, is just to drink water,” she told the publication. “I know it’s such a cliché, but I think a lot of us go straight to the coffee without just drinking a glass of water.”

But what do experts think of this? Helen Bell, a nutritionist at the UK Care Guide, told The Mirror that she’s certainly on to something with her snack and meal choices, suggesting they may be worth a go if you’re keen to shed a few pounds.

Firstly, commenting on Katy’s breakfast choice, she explained: “In my experience, consuming eggs as a snack can actually be quite beneficial for weight loss. Eggs are high in protein, which helps to increase satiety and keep you feeling fuller for longer.

“This can reduce the overall calorie intake throughout the day. But, it’s important to watch portion sizes and prepare them in a healthy way, like boiling or poaching, to avoid adding unnecessary fats.”

Eggs, much like chicken, fish, nuts and seeds, can also be categorised as a ‘clean food’. This term generally includes healthy products that aren’t processed, meaning they haven’t undergone any chemical treatment.

Recent research from the US-based Cleveland Clinic discovered that consuming processed meat is among the main causes of young-onset colorectal cancer. Therefore, ‘cleaner’ alternatives are not only beneficial for weight loss but long-term health too.

Helen continued: “Eating ‘clean foods’ such as chicken, fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds can, in my experience, be incredibly beneficial for weight loss. These foods are typically lower in calories and higher in essential nutrients compared to processed foods. They provide fibre, which aids in digestion and helps maintain a feeling of fullness.

“In my experience, clients who switch to a diet rich in these foods often find it easier to manage their weight because they are consuming more nutrient-dense calories that support overall health and metabolism.”

Despite this, Helen stressed that one of Katy’s methods can have ‘mixed results’. This especially includes drinking apple cider vinegar and celery juice as part of a daily routine.

“Apple cider vinegar has been linked to improved digestion and may help regulate blood sugar levels, which can potentially aid weight loss,” she explained. “Celery juice is low in calories and can be hydrating, but it doesn’t provide significant nutrients compared to whole vegetables.

“In my experience, the psychological aspect of starting the day with a ‘detox’ drink can sometimes encourage individuals to make healthier choices throughout the day. However, there’s no magic drink for weight loss, for me, it’s the overall diet and lifestyle that make the difference.”
