A popular east Belfast pizza restaurant has become the latest hospitality business to shut its doors due to costs.

Sorellina Stone Baked Pizza on the Belmont Road announced the news on its Facebook page on Wednesday afternoon, saying the “ever increasing costs” associated with running the business had led to the decision.

“Some sad news…after nearly two years of trading we have had to make the sad and difficult decision to close Sorellina,” they said.

“Against a background of ever increasing costs, it has not been possible to maintain our business without compromising our offer and service.

“Despite all the challenges, it has been an exciting journey and we would like to thank all our friends and customers for your loyalty and support.”

Food content creators The Gourmet Boys were among those who expressed their disappointment in the comments.

“Very sad to see you guys having to make this decision. From day one it was a pleasure to meet you and eat your amazing food. We’re sorry to see you go,” they said.

Another customer highlighted the company’s “kindness” towards healthcare workers during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“So sorry to hear this. You very kindly delivered food (amazing food!!) to us during the pandemic even though it was beyond your delivery area,” they said.

“Your kindness to nurses working in the Cancer services BCH (Belfast City Hospital) will never be forgotten. Thank you so very much. So sorry to hear you’ve closed.”
