A professional driver from Brampton is facing a charge of dangerous driving from the Ontario Provincial Police after a transport truck was seen being driven in the wrong direction on Highway 401 in Napanee, Monday evening.

The OPP said in a news release that just after 8 p.m., they started to receive reports of a transport truck and trailer which had been ramped onto the highway’s westbound lanes while being driven east.

After being driven roughly 10 km on the north shoulder, witnesses reported it turned around at the westbound OnRoute in Odessa. OPP caught up with the vehicle after it had ramped back onto the highway, this time in the correct direction.

As a result of the investigation, Balwinder Dhaliwal, 48, of Brampton was arrested and charged with dangerous operation.

Dhaliwal was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee on Nov. 19, 2024.
