Michael Schumacher’s family appear to be shifting their approach when it comes to the F1 icon after he attended his daughter’s wedding over the weekend, according to reports.

The German is a Formula One legend, having won a stunning seven titles during his time in the sport – a feat only Lewis Hamilton has been able to emulate since.

Schumacher’s world was transformed in 2013 when he sustained serious injuries following a tragic skiing accident in the French Alps.

He has not been photographed since and his condition remains closely guarded, with only a handful of people knowing the Schumacher of today.

Over the weekend, Schumacher reportedly attended the wedding of his daughter, Gina-Maria.

Gina-Maria wed long-term showjumper boyfriend Iain Bethke at a private ceremony in Spain.

The big event was held at the Schumacher’s Spanish estate with the F1 icon’s wife, Corinna Schumacher, previously purchasing the property from Real Madrid president Florentino Perez back in 2017.

According to the Daily Mail, the fact their nuptials were held at the property – rather than anywhere else – ‘suggests a huge shift in approach’.

Schumacher has been protected ever since the tragic skiing accident of 11 years ago.

By attending the wedding alongside other members of the family, however, it appears the veil of secrecy is starting to come down slightly.

Schumacher is said to be regularly flown to the property from the family home in Switzerland as he continues to recover from his injuries.

And he could be set for a second public appearance, too.

Schumacher’s son, Mick Schumacher, appears to have got engaged to long-term girlfriend Laila Hasanovic.

Laila recently hinted at their engagement by uploading a picture of her wearing a sparkly ring on Instagram.

Given Schumacher attending Gina-Maria’s ceremony, it’s now possible he’ll appear in public once again.

That will be for the family to decide, however, with the F1 icon still requiring the utmost privacy as he continues to live a life away from the spotlight.

Meanwhile, Schumacher’s former manager, Willi Weber, wasn’t invited to the ceremony.

Speaking to BILD, he also said he’d ‘said goodbye to Schumacher in his heart’ – while expressing regrets over how he didn’t immediately visit the 55-year-old after his skiing accident in France in 2013.

“Michael was one of my best friends. More like a son that I never had,” he said.

“Nobody knows exactly what’s going on with him today, so I don’t want to comment any further.

He added: For a long time I blamed myself for not reacting immediately.

“Since then, I’ve said goodbye to Michael in my heart in order to find my peace again.”
