Two people have been taken to hospital following a serious crash in Co Down.

Police attended the scene of a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the Belfast Road in Magheralin this afternoon.

NI Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) alongside the NI Ambulance Service (NIAS) also attended.

The road was closed for a time this afternoon, however it has since reopened.

NIAS confirmed they have taken two people to hospital following the crash.

“The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 13:45 on Tuesday 1st October following reports of an RTC in the Ballymacbredan Road Area, Magheralin.

“NIAS despatched two Emergency Ambulance Crews and the Hazardous Area Response Team to the incident.

“Following initial assessment and treatment at the scene, two patients were taken by ambulance to Craigavon Area Hospital.”

Earlier today, DUP councillor Stephen Moutray said emergency services were at the scene and advised people to avoid the area.

DUP MLA Jonathan Buckley also warned road users of the crash.

“There has been a serious collision on the Belfast Road, Magheralin,” he said earlier today. “Diversions are in place and road users advised to avoid. Thoughts and prayers to those involved”.
