A campaign group is calling on British broadcasters to refer to Hezbollah as “terrorists” as the mainstream media “fail” to do so, apart from GB News.

The group, Campaign Against Antisemitism, said “other broadcasters must follow suit” and refer to the group as “terrorists.”

A spokesperson for Campaign Against Antisemitism said: “In the wake of the barbaric 7th October attacks, when Hamas murdered over 1,200 people and took some 250 hostage, many of our broadcasters showed an unbelievable level of resistance to calling Hamas what it is: a terrorist organisation.

“Similarly, Hizballah is a proscribed antisemitic genocidal terror group, and it began attacking Israel from across the border in Lebanon on 8th October with no respite.

“Again, with the exception of GB News, our media is stubbornly failing to describe Hizballah in legally accurate terms.

“Using any other descriptor risks legitimising or downplaying the actions and rhetoric of this and other terror groups. British Jews should be able to expect better from our national broadcasters.”

The group called directly on Tim Davie, Director-General of the BBC, David Rhodes, Executive Chairman of Sky News Group, Carolyn McCall, Chief Executive of ITV and Alex Mahon, Chief Executive of Channel 4 to follow suit.

In their Action Network petition, the group says: “Like Hamas, Hizballah is a proscribed antisemitic genocidal terror group. But you wouldn’t know this from Britain’s broadcasters.”

“Hizballah has been true to its mission, bombing Jewish targets from Buenos Aires to Burgas, and it has been accused of setting off bombs in London outside buildings used by Jews and Israelis.

“Our broadcasters are stubbornly failing to describe Hizballah in legally accurate terms. Using any other descriptor risks legitimising or downplaying the actions and rhetoric of this and other terror groups. British Jews should be able to expect better from our media,” they concluded.
