Building work has commenced on Northern Ireland’s first Greggs drive-thru outlet.
Sausage roll and pasty fans will soon be able to grab their favourite snack on the go at the site in Craigavon’s Marlborough Retail Park, Co Armagh.
Planning permission for the drive-thru was approved in May by Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.
Ground was broken beside the retail park’s Burger King restaurant earlier this month, but it is not clear when the outlet will be open to the public.
Greggs has been asked for a statement on the building work.
The Newcastle upon Tyne-based chain has almost 2,500 outlets across the UK and currently has 17 stores in Northern Ireland.
Greggs offers coffee, sausage rolls, pasties, freshly made sandwiches and much more.
According to the planning application for the drive-thru in Craigavon, which was submitted in January, it will be located next to the existing Burger King and will have an outdoor seating area.
Supporting statements submitted on behalf of Turkington Properties said the size of the unit will be around 185 sq m.
The Greggs bakery will have 31 indoor seats and 29 car parking spaces, including two disabled spots.
Greggs’ Craigavon drive-thru application received no objections from DfI Roads, Environmental Health, NI Environment Agency or NI Water.
The supporting statement added that the Craigavon retail park has undergone “significant redevelopment and investment” in recent years.
Marlborough Retail Park also has a drive-thru Starbucks store, as well as an M&S Simply Food, Home Bargains, O’Neill’s and Airtastic. Rushmere Shopping Centre, Tesco Extra and Halfords are all located next to the site.
Meanwhile, Greggs announced a further expansion in Northern Ireland last month.
The chain is planning to open a new location on the Lisburn Road, Belfast, and submitted plans to take on the former Deanes and Decano site, which was formerly run by restaurateur Michael Deane.
It’s also taking on a unit on the ground floor of a new student accommodation scheme on York Street in the city.
The business is also taking one of the new food units being developed at the centre on the Saintfield Road.
