They say that when you win, you should do so with humility and dignity.
Those two traits were nowhere to be seen from Ailin Perez on Saturday after her fight with Darya Zheleznyakova at UFC Paris.
After scoring a dominant first-round submission victory via a head-and-arm choke in their bantamweight bout at UFC Paris, Perez got up and taunted her opponent with here patented celebration: Twerking.
Perez proceeded to dance while shaking her backside directly in Zheleznyakova’s direction as she got up.
And, as Zheleznyakova began walking back to her corner, Perez scooted over to make sure that the Russian got the full show.
Fans on social media went wild for the celebration.
“Naw scooting to the left for a second twerk is straight disrespectful,” one user on X commented.
“The reposition for the continued twerk is the ultimate disrespect,” another fan wrote.
“This is absolutely disgraceful and she should be ashamed of herself for such behaviour, she can do this to me any day or night: she should not be allowed to do this,” a third user posted.
“I’m guessing there was no respect for each other going into the fight, this basically the girls version of teabagging someone after the W,” another user replied.
Zheleznyakova did not react to her opponent’s taunts and went back to her corner after the loss.
Perez has been known for her twerking celebration, but hadn’t taken it to this level in the past.
With the win, the Argentine fighter improved to 4-1 in UFC with four straight wins.
However, the fight was close to being called off due to weight-cutting issues.
Perez was half a pound short of the 136-pound maximum weight limit for the women’s bantamweight division at the weigh-in.
She was seen gingerly walking onto the scale and, when it was announced she weighed 136.5 pounds, she began crying. She struggled to flex her bicep and pointed to sky.
UFC officials quickly approached her and helped her stumble off the scale to the backstage area.
