A quarter of Brits are declaring Halloween as their favourite festivity, and are ready to splash out more than ever this year.
With the eerie evening just a month away, a poll of 2,000 adults has uncovered that they’re set to spend close to £100 in October, marking a steep rise from the modest £21 average of yesteryears.
A good 25 per cent of those surveyed are already plotting their Halloween festivities a month ahead, while half reckon that stores should stock Halloween goods well before the event.
One in three are preparing to distribute sweets, a quarter have pumpkin carving on their agenda, and 20 per cent plan to deck out their homes. In addition, a fifth are looking forward to dressing up in full costume for the night.
The study also highlighted that nearly a quarter get into a competitive spirit when it comes to adorning their abodes, with living rooms, front porches, and hallways getting the ghoulish makeover.
Vicky Woods from Disney Store, which initiated the survey to kick off its Halloween range, commented to say: “Halloween has really gained momentum in the UK in recent years, which the research and our own customer interest shows us.”
She added: “As a result, more people than ever are transforming their homes inside and out for the occasion from dressing up to throwing themed parties.”
Woods also noted: “We are seeing searches for Halloween themed products starting earlier each year, beginning around mid-July and peaking the first week of October.
“Social media, along with influences from across the pond, has certainly played a role in increasing excitement and spending, as people aim to make their celebrations more elaborate and memorable.”
When choosing costumes, 16 per cent of participants opt for something less scary, while a chilling 31 per cent seek to instil fear.

Yet social media has shaped the transformation of decorations and outfits over time, says 31 per cent of those surveyed, and 24 per cent even strive to eclipse others with their sartorial picks.
But not just for kids, 26 per cent believe Halloween offers equal enjoyment for grown-ups, with 18 per cent taking pleasure in welcoming trick-or-treaters.
Vicky shared her insight, saying: “It’s fascinating to see how many people now rate Halloween as their favourite ‘holiday.’ Children, especially, love to embrace the fun, and it’s a perfect chance for families to come together and get creative.
“But it’s always worth planning ahead the best costumes and decorations tend to fly off the shelves as we approach the big night.”
