For anyone wanting a bit of peace the thought of living on a remote island might well appeal. Far from the hustle and bustle of city life it can seem the ideal place.
And one such island is on the market – complete with five-bedroom luxury accommodation, a pool and gym and incredible views. The only snag is it also comes with a £33.5m price-tag.
North Island sits in a private lagoon in the Maldives with crystal clear waters and golden sandy beaches. It is currently being sold by David Britton International, a Lake District-based real estate agency for $45m.
It is located just off Medhufaru in the Noonu Atoll. It is set to have the stunning villa complex built on it.
It will be the only single-residence island to exist in the wider Maldives archipelago. Managing Director David said: “I have walked along the sands and soaked up the picture-perfect views of this truly remarkable island.
“It is paradise personified and without question, the most exclusive and exciting piece of real estate we have had the privilege to market. It will make an exceptional holiday retreat for the most discerning of international travellers who will find it offers unparalleled luxury.”
North Island is a part of the Soneva Jani destination resort, located 105 miles north of the Maldivian capital city of Malé. Sitting at the northern tip of Soneva, it will feature a 3,717 sq m built-up area and a total land area of 33,437 sq m – around the size of three football pitches.
Stunning pictures show how the villa complex will look. They show spacious living areas including a stunning bedroom, living area and gym.
The complex will be crafted from sustainable, ethically sourced materials, using fast-growing, ultra-sustainable and durable bamboo or plantation-grown wood. And in line with the Soneva Jani ‘Waste to Wealth’ ethos, materials will be re-used and recycled wherever possible.
That will include transforming driftwood into sculptures and statement lighting and using reclaimed telegraph poles for construction. Experts will also turn waste metals and glass into eye-catching design details.
The vast North Island complex will have five bedrooms and three children’s rooms across a number of villas. The main villa building will have an “opulent” master suite, a main living area and a “breathtaking” infinity pool.
A walkway will link it to a gym and fitness area. Two exclusive guest villas will sit on the beach with direct access to the tranquillity of the picture-perfect sands. There is a development plan to add two further villas.
David Britton said: “A nearby beach shack will offer laid-back elegance, while a private cinema on the beach will provide enchanting starlit cinematic moments. Meanwhile, a beachside grill and bar with an open-air dining area will invite indulgence, creating a unique dining experience with toes in the sand.”
And if you do feel you can rustle up the money for the island you are not stuck with the plans as they are. Construction of the island estate will only start once the new owners have had the opportunity to input into the finer details and design features.
