Erik ten Hag has complete faith that he won’t be fired by Manchester United following their dismal defeat to Tottenham due to conversations he held with the board this summer.

United find themselves 12th in the table and closer to the relegation zone than the top four after losing 3-0 to Spurs on Sunday.

It’s now three games without a win for Ten Hag in what has turned out to be a disastrous start to the campaign.

There was a sombre mood around Old Trafford from the home crowd as they witnessed yet another drab display from Ten Hag’s side.

Boos rung around the stadium with pressure mounting on Ten Hag ahead of their second Europa League match on Thursday.

‘Ten Hag Out’ began trending on social media with some fans calling on the club to go in a different direction.

However, the Dutchman remains confident that the United board will stick with him after choosing to do so in the summer.

“No, I am not thinking about this,” Ten Hag said.

“We all made together this decision to stay together, as an ownership, a leadership group in the summer, also we made the decision from a clear review what we have to improve and how we want to construct a squad.

“But we knew it will take some time, how the window went, some players late in like Ugarte.

“Also, we have to make some improvement in organisation, some injuries, we need some time.

“We are all on one page or in one boat together, the ownership, the staff and the players as well. I don’t have that concern.”

Jamie Redknapp doesn’t share Ten Hag’s optimism though as the former Premier League star feels there’s no coming back for the Dutchman.

“I’ve been doing this job a long time and watched games where managers subsequently lose their jobs,” he said.

“I’m seeing performances at the moments that are the kinds that get manager sacked.

“I do feel sorry for the manager. I said before that he looks out of his depth, he looks lost. What I mean by that is at the start of the year, when your club is actively looking for another manager to come in and take your place, you are in a massively untenable position.

“You are naked in that dressing room as soon as you get that contract again because the players know that you’re not really the man.

“If the Glazers had done that, they would’ve been hammered. But because we think of INEOS as really great and super smart, that didn’t feel like a football decision. You can’t keep the manager while looking for someone else. It beggars belief for me.

“The team are playing like that too. They’re playing like they’re lost. I don’t see anyone taking the game by the scruff of the neck.”
