A trailer being towed by a vehicle on the M5 crashed on Sunday afternoon – shedding its load of fridge freezers and white goods across the road. It happened at about 3:15pm on the northbound carriageway.
All three lanes of the road were blocked as police and recovery went to the scene. Long queues for drivers were reported and police advised motorists to avoid the area or face delays.
Gloucestershire Police said: “We were called at 3:18pm on Sunday. A vehicle towing a trailer has jackknifed. All three lanes are shut due to the obstruction on the road. There are no injuries.”

Photos from the scene show an upended trailer still attached to a vehicle. A number of electrical white goods, including fridges, were left strewn across the road. The rest of the debris appears to be metal work surfaces and cabinets.
The accident happened between J11A A417 (Gloucester/Cirencester) to J11 A40 (Gloucester/Golden Valley Bypass).
At 4:30pm Inrix reported: “Queueing traffic and three lanes closed due to overturned trailer and debris on road on M5 Northbound from J11A A417 (Gloucester / Cirencester) to J11 A40 (Gloucester / Golden Valley Bypass).
“Traffic is passing via the hard shoulder. All three live lanes currently closed to allow the Highways to clear the debris off the scene and also allow recovery work.”
National Highways told drivers to allow extra time when travelling on the M5 this afternoon.
