Funeral details have been announced for the father-of-five who died in a tragic road collision in Co Fermanagh on Wednesday night.

Daniel Lavelle (40) from the Donagh area passed away after a crash involving his car and a lorry in the Crom Road area of Lisnaskea

Police said the driver of the lorry, a 48-year-old man, has subsequently been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in custody at this time.

Mr Lavelle’s funeral will take place on Tuesday morning (October 1).

A death notice states: “Removal from his late residence on Tuesday morning at 10.15am to arrive at St Patricks Church Donagh for 11 o’clock funeral Mass. Burial afterwards in adjoining cemetery.”

Mr Lavelle has been remembered as the “beloved son of Michael and Mary, dearly loved husband of Eilish (née Rice) and loving father to Jacob, Michaela, Laoise, Clíodhna and Domhnall Óg.”

He was also a “dear brother of Emmet (Josie), Michael, Michelle (Mickey), Barry (Geraldine), Majella (Stuart), Maria (Paul) and Emma (Ryan)”.

His wake house will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 1pm until 8pm each day and strictly private to family and friends at all other times.

Tributes have flooded in for the Fermanagh man since his passing.

His children’s Gaelic football club, Maguiresbridge St.Mary’s GFC, said they are “heartbroken”.

“Daniel was a huge supporter of his children within the club. Whenever there was underage training or matches, Daniel was there,” a post from the club reads.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lavelle and Rice families at this extremely difficult time.

“A devoted father and husband, may Daniel now rest in peace.”

His employer, contractors DF Builders Ltd, said that “Danny was at the top of his trade; an extremely skilful bricklayer with the work ethic to match”.

“We are lost for words – you will be deeply missed our friend.

“We send deepest condolences to Daniel’s heartbroken wife Eilish and their five children and to his devastated parents, brothers and sisters and to the entire Lavelle family circle.”

Sinn Féin MLA Áine Murphy expressed her condolences to the family. The Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA said: “It is absolutely heart-breaking news to learn of the tragic death of Daniel Lavelle following a road traffic collision on the Crom Road on Wednesday evening.

“My immediate thoughts and prayers are with his wife Eilish, their five children, extended family and friends at this very sad and difficult time.

“In what will be very emotional days and weeks ahead I know the local community will rally around to support Daniel’s grieving family.

“I want to pay tribute to the emergency services for all of their efforts at the scene.”
