Primark shoppers are buzzing over a new throwback collection that’s just hit the shelves, sparking waves of nineties nostalgia. TikTok has been flooded with videos hundreds of people have taken, confirming the arrival of the new range, with prices from just £4.
Groovy Chick, the iconic character by Bang on the Door that dominated almost every girl’s room in the late ’90s and early 2000s, made a grand return to retail this month. Primark is responsible for sending shoppers on a walk down memory lane – and it’s proving a hit, with customers eager to reclaim their youth, reports the Mirror.
The retro line up features items such as a £19 snuddie, £14 pyjama bottoms, £12 sleep t-shirt and £9 cropped shirt – all receiving a stellar reaction from past fans. However, for some, this nostalgic journey is also a stark reminder of their age as some say they feel ‘so old’.
Despite that, some shoppers couldn’t hide their excitement, with one writing: “CHILD ME IS SCREAMING!” Another said: “My inner child is so happy!”
Comments continued with someone saying: “I’m a 2000s baby and I had everything of her!” Another shopper spoke about their humbling experience with the range, sharing: “A little girl was asking her mum what groovy chic was in Primark earlier and it made me feel like a literal fossil!”
Among the eye-catching pieces is the Purple Groovy Chick Tote bag, priced at £4. It prompted one fan to confess: “The way I went straight online to order this on Click and Collect!”
Certain Primark stores do offer Click and Collect, taking the hassle of hunting through racks and display out of shopping. It’s only in select stores now but following a trial run should be rolled out across every shop by the end of 2025.
The fleecy pyjama bottoms are also stirring up conversations for their “so soft” texture, deemed “perfect for cosy nights in” by the Primark bosses. The £14 product is described online as: “Covered in flowers and Groovy Chick character silhouettes, these purple sleep bottoms feature a soft fleece fabric and side pockets, making them a practical piece for your pyjama collection.
“Meanwhile, the elastic waist and leg cuffs offer a secure, comfort-focused fit. Perfect for lounging and staying cosy on chilly days. Why not pair them with the coordinating PJ top and snuddie to assemble a nostalgic night time ensemble?”
The standout item in the range is the oversized snuddie priced at £19. Primark bosses assure it will leave shoppers feeling “nostalgia-filled”.
The item’s description reads: “This purple oversized hoodie features a soft inner lining and side pockets, making it a practical layering piece for your loungewear collective. The roomy fit and hood provide extra comfort, while the zip-up front ensures easy wear over your pyjamas.”
Some customers are hoping that even more Groovy Chick items will be added to Primark. One said: “I hope they do some bedding – had it when I was a kid!”
Another commented: “Who else had a whole Groovy Chick room as a kid and felt dead grown up? The nostalgia! There’s so much more they could make – and I’d buy it all!”
Primark frequently brings back nostalgic characters on its clothing, with recent arrivals in store being Hello Kitty as well as Toy Story. There was also a £24 Power Rangers set of loungewear introduced in a wide range of colours last month that aren’t all shown online.
