A much-loved restaurant in Bristol has said it is still “a couple of months” away from reopening after being told it had to relocate to a new city centre site. The Mayflower, which was located at Haymarket Walk before closing due to redevelopment of the Premier Inn near the Bearpit roundabout, confirmed that work is still ongoing to get set up at the new location.
The Chinese restaurant’s relocation was announced on May 16 after operating for 20 years at the Haymarket. The final service before closing was on June 26.
The new location for the restaurant will be at 10-16 The Horsefair at the site of the former Dulay store – opposite Primark. Whilst the Mayflower aims to open in a couple of months, the current opening date is unknown.
The Mayflower said: “We’ve been busy trying to get the new place set up. We are currently still a couple of months from it opening. But we will keep everyone posted on the opening date on social media.”
When announcing the closure of the Haymarket restaurant, the Mayflower team said: “After 20 incredible years at the Haymarket, we have some big news to share with you all. Due to redevelopment plans for our current site, we will be relocating to a new premises.
“This decision hasn’t been an easy one, as we’ve built so many memories and cherished moments here. However, we are excited about this new chapter and the opportunities it brings.
“We want to take this moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you. Your unwavering support over the years has been the cornerstone of our success. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for choosing us as your dining destination, for sharing your celebrations and milestones with us, and for making our restaurant feel like home.”
The Beefeater which is next to the Premier Inn, at the Bearpit roundabout, is partially demolished as work began to build new tower blocks for accommodation. The hotel will be replaced by a 28-storey tower and an 18-storey tower, which will contain 422 student bedrooms and 142 co-living rooms respectively.
