A plot of land in a south Wiltshire village has been acquired by a housebuilder for an undisclosed sum.
Hampshire-headquartered Bargate Homes and parent company VIVID have snapped up the 4.2-acre site in Whiteparish, near Salisbury. The site was recently granted outline planning permission for 25 homes.
The housebuilder has appointed Bagshot-based architect Cooper Baillie to undertake the detailed design for the scheme, which will include seven affordable dwellings. Three of the plots will also be sold as first homes.
Half of the site is designated for the creation of a play area, attenuation basin and nearly two acres of public parkland. A Reserved Matters planning application will be lodged with Wiltshire Council during 2025.
Located off A27 Romsey Road, the site is on the eastern edge of Whiteparish, which was crowned the ‘Best Kept Village in Wiltshire’ in 2022.
Steve Birch, land and planning director at Bargate Homes, said: “It has been a decade since Bargate Homes last delivered new homes in Wiltshire. Acquiring such a special site in Whiteparish – which offers glorious countryside views and footpaths leading through to the New Forest – is very exciting.
“There is significant pent-up demand for energy-efficient family homes within this ‘Best Kept Village’ which benefits from a sustainable and accessible location between Salisbury and Romsey. We are looking forward to working up the detailed house designs which will complement and add to the appeal of the village, parts of which date back to the 12th Century.”
Bargate said the new homes would be “reflective of the architectural styles” in Whiteparish, which is classed as one of south Wiltshire’s larger villages.
Parking for each new property will be allocated on-plot, within parking bays or garages. The development layout will limit cars within the streetscape, according to Bargate, which said the on-street visitor parking would be “discreet” and in small groups.
