A body has been found in the search for Michael Wheeler, police have confirmed. Michael, 37 from Yeovil, was last seen on Saturday, August 24 and concerns were raised for his welfare on September 16. Four men have been charged with murder in connection to his disappearance.
Avon and Somerset Police confirmed today that officers – acting on intelligence – searched a property in Yarlington, near Wincanton, on Wednesday afternoon (September 25). A specialist search dog indicated at the location and crime scene investigators will now examine the site, the force said.
Michael’s family have been informed of the latest update and Avon and Somerset Police said they continue to be supported by specially trained officers.
Four men appeared at Yeovil Magistrates’ Court charged with Michael’s murder and were remanded back into custody ahead of a further hearing at Bristol Crown Court on Friday, September 27. David Garland, 39 and Jack Rance, 28, both of no fixed abode, and Mark Roberts, 38 and Reuben Clare, 18, both of Yeovil, have been charged with murder.
Another man who was arrested last week has been re-arrested and remains in police custody today, Thursday, September 26.
Two more men were arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of assisting an offender. One remains in police custody and one has been released under investigation. Two people remain on police bail – a man who was arrested on suspicion of murder on Monday, and a woman who was previously arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
The investigation is ongoing and police detectives are still appealing for information from anyone who might be able to help. Avon and Somerset Police said: “If you can help, please call 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5224244891, or complete our online appeals form.
