Crossmaglen Rangers skipper Callum Cumiskey acknowledges that his side face a huge barrier in their bid to reach another Armagh Senior Football Championship Final.

The Rangers will meet Lurgan side Clann Eireann in a Semi-Final tie that has gripped the imagination of the county as the Championship edges towards what could prove a fascinating climax.

Clann Eireann took delivery of the title three years ago but with the Rangers on the cusp of yet another hat-trick of titles, Cumiskey is summoning a special effort from his side this time.

“To win a title, any title, you have to show that you can beat the best sides and Clann Eireann certainly come into this category,” says Cumiskey. “We know how difficult this will be.”

Clann Eireann will parade three members of Armagh’s All-Ireland-winning side — Barry McCambridge, Tiernan Kelly and Conor Turbitt — in the Semi-Final conscious that combined pace and power can prove key assets.

With the three O’Neill brothers — Oisin, Rian and Aaron — helping to underpin the side along with Cian McConville, Stephen Morris, Pearse Blessing and Paul Hughes, the Rangers boast an experienced core of players who are accustomed to high intensity matches.

“We have to show that we can go the distance and at the same time keep our discipline,” adds Cumiskey. “The pressure will be on but we will be up for the challenge.

“There is no doubt that Clann Eireann will be well fired up for this one, that’s for sure.”

Clan na Gael and Madden will meet in the other Semi-Final with both sides having made a big impression in reaching the last-four. Former Tyrone star Mark Harte, son of the legendary Mickey, has instilled fresh confidence within the side and restored their pride.

In Niall Grimley, they have one of the best midfielders in the province although Clan na Gael can boast the imposing presence of Armagh All-Ireland winners Stefan Campbell and Shane McPartlan in their side.

Campbell has brought the outstanding form he showed with Armagh into the Club Championship and has his sights on helping to steer the Clans into the decider.

“We are ready for Madden and the going will be tough,” he maintains.
