Ford Motor Company is recalling roughly 17,000 examples of its F-150 and Maverick pickup trucks in Canada in two separate safety campaigns for two different issues. For the F-150, model-year-2022 trucks could be affected if they received an over-the-air (OTA) update that may have accidentally stopped a prior software-related recall from happening in 2022; and for Maverick, pickups from 2022 through 2024 may be affected if a particular glitch is present in their radio software.

The Ford Maverick recall covers 13,362 examples of the truck in Canada; its Transport Canada recall campaign is numbered 2024-524, and the internal Ford code for the recall is 24S59. On some of these trucks from model years 2022, 2023, and 2024, “a software problem could cause the rearview camera image not to display or to freeze when the vehicle is reversing,” the safety authority says.

Owners of affected Mavericks will be notified by Ford, and asked to take the truck to their dealership, where an update to the radio software will be performed, free of charge. The defect is also found in some 144,516 Maverick pickups in the U.S.

The Ford F-150 recall covers 4,210 examples of that truck in Canada; its Transport Canada recall campaign is numbered 2024-527, and the internal Ford code for the recall is 24C30. These trucks were previously recalled in 2022 (Transport Canada recall no. 2022-520, or Ford code 22C22) and repaired via a software update. However, “an unrelated over-the-air update to the body control module” may have kept the 2022 recall update from being received, and so Ford is recalling these trucks again.

The defect that both recalls aimed to remedy was for the parking lights, which due to a glitch may flicker instead of remaining fully illuminated when the headlights are switched to ‘Position Lamp On’ mode, ‘Headlamp On,’ and ‘Automatic’ positions on the headlight switch. The new fix must be performed at a dealership, where service techs will replace the LED driver module (LDM). This new recall also covers 16,543 examples of the F-150 in the U.S.
