A doctor has warned that men who play a lot of Fifa 25 could see a serious negative impact on their sexual health. Dr Ashwin Sharma from online pharmacy MedExpress has warned against excess gaming ahead of the Fifa 25 release due to the impact it could have on gamers’ sexual health.

A 2021 study found that, on average, 10% of gamers aged 18 to 25 spent more than 20 hours per week gaming. And with the new and highly anticipated EA FC 25 game set to be released next weekend (September 27), many gamers will likely be glued to their screens for even longer.

The study found that men who spent more than five hours a day using TV/video games or computers were almost three times more likely to report erectile dysfunction than men spending less than one hour performing the same activities.

Dr Sharma said: “With any major game release, it’s common for gamers to spend extended hours sitting in front of screens. However, many may be unaware of the long-term impact a sedentary lifestyle can have on their overall health, particularly their sexual health. Prolonged sitting and lack of physical activity can negatively affect circulation and cardiovascular health, which are critical for maintaining sexual function.

“Prolonged periods of sitting and reduced physical activity can lead to poor cardiovascular health. Over time, this directly impairs blood flow to various parts of the body, including the penis, and can contribute to erectile dysfunction (ED).

“To support both their physical and sexual health, gamers must ensure they take regular breaks and incorporate physical activity into their gaming session, especially if they plan to be gaming extensively. I recommend getting up and moving around for at least 5 – 10 minutes every hour to help improve circulation, reduce the risks associated with prolonged sitting, and enhance overall well-being. In addition to these short breaks, integrating daily exercise, proper hydration, and a balanced diet will contribute to better cardiovascular health, energy levels, and long-term sexual health.

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common condition, and it’s important to understand that there is no need for stigma around it. The fact that there are over 847,000 Google searches for ‘Viagra’ in the past month reflects just how widespread ED is.

“Increasing physical activity and adopting a healthier lifestyle can have a significant impact on improving erectile function. Regular exercise boosts cardiovascular health, reduces stress, and enhances blood flow, all of which can contribute to better sexual health.

“However, for those whose ED persists despite these lifestyle changes, medications remain a highly effective option. PDE5 inhibitors, such as Viagra and Cialis, are commonly used to treat ED. They work by increasing blood flow to the penis, helping you perform in the bedroom. For those experiencing ED on occasion, Viagra might be a suitable option.

“Additionally, there is on-demand Cialis, which can be used in the same context. Generic versions, Sildenafil (Viagra) and Tadalafil (Cialis) are equally as effective and available at a lower cost.

“It’s important to discuss with your healthcare provider which treatment—whether lifestyle changes, medication, or a combination of both—works best for you based on your individual needs.”
