A murder investigation is continuing today (Sunday, September 22) after a man died following a stabbing incident in Bristol on Friday (September 20). The 25-year-old was fatally stabbed in Stapleton Road in East Bristol at about 5.40pm on Friday.

Police officers at the scene immediately began administering first aid and called for backup. Paramedics provided critical care at the scene before the victim was taken to Southmead Hospital. However, despite medics’ best efforts, he was pronounced dead later that evening.

Extensive searches of the east Bristol area were carried out on Friday to locate the offender by uniformed officers, with assistance from the National Police Air Service. These efforts subsequently led to an arrest of a man in the Eastville area at about 5.45pm on Saturday, September 21.

Officers also arrested two women, aged 36 and 47, on suspicion of assisting an offender and they remain in custody. A man who was arrested on suspicion of the same offence on Friday has been released with no further action.

Following the incident, Stapleton Road was shut down in both directions after police and paramedics raced to the scene of the violent attack. The road remained closed to traffic and a cordon was in place for most of the day on Saturday.

Two tents were also put up in Stapleton Road, which runs through Lawrence Hill and Easton, to preserve the integrity of the crime scene from the elements as Bristol has seen heavy rainfall over the weekend. Police officers also remained at the scene as forensic work continued throughout the day.

Stapleton Road was reopened later on Saturday afternoon following the conclusion of police inquiries at the scene. Officers have since thanked the public for their understanding while the work was carried out.

Following the arrest of a man on suspicion of murder, detective inspector Mark Newbury, senior investigating officer, said: “The arrest of a man this afternoon on suspicion of murder marks a significant development in our investigation. He is in custody and will be interviewed by detectives from our Major Crime Investigation Team in due course.
