Princess Beatrice was issued a major promotion after Prince Andrew’s downfall.

A new royal series about the Duke of York’s 2019 career-ending interview dropped on Amazon Prime earlier this week, titled A Very Royal Scandal.

Executively produced by Emily Maitlis, the show featured the lead-up to the interview and examined its aftermath effect on Andrew’s immediate family.

Just before the credits, a written epilogue appeared on the screen, showing what became of Prince Andrew, Princess Beatrice, Emily Maitlis and Ghislaine Maxwell.

Princess Beatrice appeared heavily in the programme as she accompanied the Duke of York to meet the Newsnight team ahead of the interview.

A Very Royal Scandal also depicted the Princess of York being the person who convinced her father to go through with the interview after he expressed doubts.

The text for Beatrice’s epilogue read: “Princess Beatrice is Vice President of Partnerships and Strategy at Afiniti, a data and software company.

“In 2022, she was made one of four counsellors of state, allowing her to stand in for King Charles.”

Princess Beatrice was issued the major promotion of counsellor of state in 2022, the same year her father was stripped of his honorary military titles and medals by Queen Elizabeth II.

Counsellors of State include the spouse of the sovereign, and the next four people in the line of succession who are over the age of 21.

This meant Princess Beatrice had to become one after the late Queen’s death, joining Prince William, Prince Harry, and Prince Andrew.

That same year, Princess Anne and Prince Edward were made Counsellors of State so they could act on behalf of King Charles if he were unable to perform his royal duties due to an illness or absence.

This quietly prevented Prince Harry and Prince Andrew from acting as substitutes for the King, it has been claimed.

These two royals are not working members of the Royal Family, and therefore are unlikely to be called upon as Counsellors of State, despite remaining on the list.

Princess Beatrice is likely keeping a “low profile” following the Amazon series, according to royal commentator Gareth Russell.

He told GB News: “Just keeping a low profile until people have forgotten her role in this is probably the right thing to do.”
