Their road troubles continue.

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies fell to 1-3 Friday night with a 38-24 Canada West football loss to the host British Columbia Thunderbirds. All three Huskies losses have come on the road.

UBC scored 17 straight third-quarter points, stretching a 21-17 halftime lead to 38-17, and creating a buffer Saskatchewan couldn’t overcome.

The Huskies’ defence has surrendered 30-plus points in each of its four games, and on Friday UBC collected 529 yards of total offence.

The Thunderbirds got 24 carries for 187 yards and two touchdowns from tailback Isaiah Knight, including a 59-yard TD run early in the third quarter.

Saskatchewan got touchdown catches of 87 and three yards from Daniel Wiebe, who pulled in nine balls for 150 yards in a losing cause. Lukas Scott added field goals of 39, 27 and 30 yards.

Saskatchewan quarterback Anton Amundrud hit 27 of 39 passes for 329 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. UBC’s Garrett Rooker went 22 of 29 for 320 yards.

The Thunderbirds improve to 2-2 at the season’s halfway point.

Elsewhere in the conference, the Alberta Golden Bears beat the visiting Regina Rams 30-6. That result leaves both teams at 2-2.

On Saturday, 1-2 Calgary will play 3-0 Manitoba.

The Huskies, meanwhile, are back in action Friday when they play their second home game of the campaign. They’ll host Alberta at 7 p.m.
