Emergency services have rushed to a main road in Bristol where a male has been serious assaulted. Police officers and paramedics are at the scene on Stapleton Road, which has been closed in both directions following the incident.

Avon and Somerset Police were called out at around 5.45pm today (Friday, September 20) after receiving reports a male was seriously assaulted. The extent of his injuries is currently unknown.

A number of police vehicles have been sighted in the area and eyewitnesses say a police cordon is in place across the road. Members of the public are being asked to avoid the area while police and paramedics are at the scene. Avon and Somerset Police has also asked members of the public not to post video footage of the incident to social media.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Emergency services are responding to reports of a male being seriously assaulted in east Bristol. We were called to the Stapleton Road area at about 5.45pm this afternoon (Friday 20 September).

“Police and paramedics are at the scene. The road is currently closed in both directions.

“We’d please ask members of the public avoid Stapleton Road where possible to allow emergency services access to the area. We are aware some people are filming emergency services at the scene and we’d politely request people do not post any footage onto social media while we respond to this incident.”
