GB News presenter Bev Turner has shared the “chilling” account of her friend Bernadette Spofforth being arrested over a social media post.
Spofforth was arrested for allegedly spreading misinformation about the Southport stabbing suspect.
She had shared a post containing an incorrect name of the suspect, adding that there would be “hell to pay” if the information proved accurate, but soon realised that it was incorrect and deleted the post in a matter of hours.
Spofforth claims she was held by police for 36 hours before being bailed on August 10.

Speaking exclusively to GB News members, Bev said: “I have just completed an interview with a friend of mine, Bernice Spofford.
“She’s very popular on social media on X. A lot of you might know her from there. She’s been really influential since about 2020, when she started posting questions about the lockdowns and the logic of lockdowns, because as a businesswoman, she was offering advice to people with businesses as how to handle it.
“And off the back of that, she had become something of a sort of talismanic figure, actually, for the kind of counter narrative that has been pervading over the last four years on social media.
“And she found herself banged up about six weeks ago because she erroneously posted a name of the person that was suspected of being the Southport stabber at that children’s Taylor Swift dance event.”
Bev explained: “There were 5,000 other people who also posted that misinformation. It was there for two hours. Bernie realized that she’d got her facts wrong on that occasion, which is very unusual for her. And she took it down.
“She told me her story. It is chilling that you could just be at home, somebody with no criminal record, and to have a knock on the door and end up being held in a police cell for 36 hours.”
