Gabriel Bannigan is the new Monaghan senior football manager, with Andy Moran confirmed as part of his setup.

Bannigan was a member of Vinny Corey’s setup for the past two seasons. He has also managed Dublin clubs Kilmacud Crokes and St Sylvester’s in the past, while his recent stint with home club Aughnamullan led to their promotion from junior to senior.

He and Moran will be joined in the setup by Dermot McArdle, Damien Freeman and John McElhome.

Moran’s coaching future has been the subject of much speculation after a surprise decision to walk away from the Leitrim manager’s job. He had been linked with a role in Kevin McStay’s Mayo setup and was also though to be in the frame for the vacant jobs in Meath and Westmeath.

Monaghan were relegated from Division 1 of the League this year after a decade in the topflight. They were beaten by Cavan in the Ulster preliminary round and knocked out of the All-Ireland series by Galway. In five championship matches this summer, their only victory came over Meath in the All-Ireland round robin.

After a busy summer for such appointments, only Derry and Clare remain without a manager for 2025.
