Ivan Demidov had two goals and two assists in a KHL game Thursday to lead St. Petersburg SKA to a 7-4 win over HC Sochi.

The Canadiens selected Demidov with the fifth overall pick at this year’s NHL Draft.

In six games this season with St. Petersburg SKA, the 5-foot-11, 176-pound winger has three goals and three assists to lead St. Petersburg SKA with six points. Demidov’s second goal Thursday was an empty-netter.

The 18-year-old Demidov is expected to join the Canadiens next season after completing the final year of his KHL contract.

“I think he’s the steal of the draft,” Martin Lapointe, the Canadiens’ director of player personnel and director of scouting said after the team selected Demidov.

Last season, Demidov had 23-37-60 totals in 30 games with the St. Petersburgh SKA junior team and was held without a point in four KHL games.
